Saving June by Hannah Harrington

Reading "Saving Francesca" reminded me that I had a book with a similar name rotting in my Goodreads tbr, and that's how I finally read Saving June. To save your time, If you're not into music related books, this book can be summarized with the word "meh".
How very misleading a Goodreads rating can be, this got a 4.05! Tell me HOW is this fair that a book like this gets a 4.05 while "Speak" gets 3.9?! I wouldn't have read it if not for the rating and now I FEEL BETRAYED.
‘If she’d waited less than two weeks, she’d be June who died in June. But I guess my sister didn’t consider that.’
Harper Scott’s older sister has always been the perfect one — so when June takes her own life a week before her high school graduation, sixteen-year-old Harper is devastated. Everyone’s sorry, but no one can explain why.
When her divorcing parents decide to split her sister’s ashes into his-and-her urns, Harper takes matters into her own hands. She’ll steal the ashes and drive cross-country with her best friend, Laney, to the one place June always dreamed of going — California.
Enter Jake Tolan. He’s a boy with a bad attitude, a classic-rock obsession and nothing in common with Harper’s sister. But Jake had a connection with June, and when he insists on joining them, Harper’s just desperate enough to let him. With his alternately charming and infuriating demeanor and his belief that music can see you through anything, he might be exactly what she needs.
Except June wasn’t the only one hiding something. Jake’s keeping a secret that has the power to turn Harper’s life upside down — again.
Despite whatever I say, I did read this book fairly fast, it was interesting, but It's been a while since I read it and I think I slowly started to dislike this book.
The main reason? Our dear protagonist Harper
aaaah, Harper just irritated me sooo much, she was full of this teenage angst and just so un-connectable. The fact that Harper was the exact opposite of what her sister was seemed so contrived.
And this:
So, your sister's just committed suicide and now you divorced parents are distributing her ashes, what do you do?
Duh, you steal the urn and set off on a road trip with you best friend and a guy you hardly know who clearly has some problems of his own. Nice.
Dave Grohl gets serious
Also, The author was always trying to convince the reader that Harper was oh-so-strong. NOT buying it!
I get it why this book has gotten so many 5 stars, There's really good music, a hot love interest, road trip, and all that. I could have liked this book but eventually I ended up on the not-liking side.
Maybe I expected a more serious book, rather that the teeny, fluffy, shallow YA I got, when there's "suicide" written in the summary.
I'll give Saving June

3 STARS
